Engineers get the work early here.
Not because we are short-handed. Because a graduate who spends two years watching becomes an engineer who has to be taught everything twice.
Three things you will notice in the first month.
Lumex is a practice of ten people working on projects that would normally sit with a firm of a hundred. That has consequences, and they are the reason to come here.
Live documentation, early
You will be on issued packages and in coordination workshops in your first months, not shadowing them. Your name goes on drawings, which is also why the review is thorough.
Directors who are on the work
Both Directors run projects. Review and mentoring come from people doing the same job you are, on the same jobs, in the same week — not from a technical director you meet twice a year.
Systems, so your time goes into engineering
Documented standards, model templates and defined QA gates. Nobody here spends their afternoon re-deciding how a schedule should be laid out.
Most of the learning happens at somebody else's desk.
Coordination is not a meeting here, it is a habit. Packages get reviewed out loud, in front of the model, by whoever is closest to the problem — which is how a graduate picks up in six months what otherwise takes three years of reading other people's mark-ups.
Two offices, one set of standards. Work moves between Sydney and Cairo across the day, and Australian-registered engineers hold design responsibility on Australian projects.
Engineers who want to be responsible for something.
- Disciplines
- Mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and fire, at graduate through to senior level. Digital engineering and CFD capability is valued in any of them.
- What matters
- Curiosity about how things get built, willingness to be wrong in a meeting, and the discipline to check your own work before someone else does.
- What we offer
- Chartership support, a professional development budget, and flexible working arrangements.
- Where
- Sydney or Cairo. Both offices run projects; neither is a support function.
No listed vacancies at present.
We would still rather hear from you. A practice this size hires when the right person appears, not when a requisition opens — so an expression of interest is read, not filed.
Send a CV, a short note about what you want to be doing in three years, and one project you are proud of, to admin@lumexengineering.com.au.
