We bring the civil design and the hydraulic design together from the start, because the interface between them is where the avoidable cost sits.

How we approach it

Three positions we hold on civil.

These are the decisions that determine whether the package works. They are made early, and they are the ones we will argue about.

The consent condition is an engineering constraint, so read it first

On-site detention volume, permissible site discharge and water quality targets are set in the consent and are non-negotiable by the time design starts. We size against them at concept so the tank is in the model before the basement is priced.

Civil and hydraulic are one interface

Where civil and hydraulic sit with different consultants, the boundary — pit connections, charged lines, tank overflow, sub-soil drainage — is where the RFIs cluster. Delivering both removes the boundary.

Grade the accessible path early

Accessible path of travel compliance is a grading problem disguised as an access problem, and it is routinely discovered after the levels are set. It is far cheaper to resolve on a survey than on a poured slab.
